Please excuse me a moment ...

... while I get my brag on a little.

I had actually decided not to mention this little snippet of a recent happening in our life but then I saw this post over at Whispering Gums (hope she doesn't mind the mention) and decided I had to share, even if for the wrong reasons.

As most of you will by now be aware, The Sparky is in the process of an electrical apprenticeship, in fact he's now almost at the end of his fourth and final year. A few weeks ago he was invited to go to the school's 'Centre for Electrical and Refrigeration' award night where, drum roll please, he received the Third Year Electrical Apprentice of the Year Award for his work last year!! Now, admittedly this was from a reasonably small pool of approximately eighty people but it is still a nice recognition of the work that he has put in over the years ... plus the award was sponsored by Milwaukee (already his chosen tool brand) and came with a pretty awesome prize ... oh, and it will look good on his resume!

So, what does this have to do with apostrophes? Take a look a the brag photo I took and see for yourself ...

... bonus points if you spot the spelling mistake.

  1. As Whispering Gum's (<- note the apostrophe) daughter, I can safely say that she will be overjoyed to know that you are a member of our global 'TIRADES AGAINST INCORRECT APOSTROPHE USAGE' club. ;)

    1. Yes but is she Whispering Gums or Whispering Gum? Where exactly does that apostrophe belong? :D

  2. Ahhhhhhh, what a horrible screenshot! Geez:) But.... you know how much I've long wanted to visit Austraila, right?

Super congrats are in order - 80 seems like a large enough pool of candidates to me!

    1. It's funny, the screen scrolled through the different sponsor names for the whole night and after the first couple of times this one came up I commented to The Sparky on how the word 'Australia' starts to look funny if you look at it for too long ... I didn't realise why until the next time it came around! Unfortunately the apostrophes were there for all of them.

Yeah, having seen the effort he's been putting into it all I was pretty pleased to see him get some recognition, particularly given that most of those 80 were your usual young apprentice still living at home types who didn't have too many 'grown up' responsibilities to take up their time.

    1. To be fair they are all tradies and so spelling and punctuation aren't high on the agenda but still ...
