A rose by any other name ...

Clover, Morgan, Kingsley, Prestyn, Lily, Willow, Torreto, Bellatrix, Arlandria, Pearl, Chipotle, Yukiri, Totoro, Sonic, Cruikshanks, Trixie ...

Pippin!

90% of the time she looks like she's straight out of an anime but I just can't seem to get it on film. At least she finally has a name that's stuck!

Three Things Thursday - Olympic Edition

When I first started thinking about this post I was going to go with 'the good, the bad and the ugly'. I quickly quashed that idea because it meant that there would be two negative thoughts to only one positive and that's not really where I want these posts going. Not that there hasn't been quite a bit of 'ugly' to choose from (temper tanties at the women's 100m hurdle qualifiers, Aussie swimmers chasing married men, the constant bagging of our elite athletes just because they don't get gold ...?), it's just that I would prefer to focus on the positive aspects of the games. So, in no particular order I give you three of my favourite things about this year's Olympic games:

1 - speaking of the women's 100m hurdles, I think a huge shout out needs to go the the two American ladies who came in behind our Sally Pearson in the final. Kellie Wells in particular could (possibly) have been forgiven for being less than gracious in defeat, after all she was 0.02 seconds away from being the Olympic record holder. Instead both she and Dawn Harper openly congratulated Sally and appeared to be completely satisfied with their PBs.

2 - I love it when I stumble across stories like this one as I wend my way through the internet ... the enthusiasm of the three athletes from Curacao is contagious and the stand that the bloke from South Sudan made just about brought tears to my eyes ... and I'm not the teary type.

3 - Finally, as I sit here I can't for the life of me remember what the third moment was ... I know I had one in mind but it's gone ... instead, I will leave you with this clip from the BBC's coverage of the opening ceremony. Let the games commence indeed!

A Breath of Fresh Air

~ It was refreshingly (comparatively) mild outside this morning. So much so that I decided to walk to the station instead of catching the bus. In fact, I strolled rather than rushed, breathed deep instead of stressed, savoured the blue sky and fluffy pink-lined clouds, smiled at the gum tree at the oval (I'll take a photo of it for you one day Emma) and just simply took my time.

~ Then it started raining.

~ and then it stopped, right in time for me to go for a lunch time walk ... which I did, again breathing deep the (relatively) fresh post-rain air, the Korean Barbeque, the Chinese bakery, the Indian spices on my way to make some sale purchases (Torchwood Season 1, The Office (US) Season 1, Castle Season 2, Camelot and the latest from The Temper Trap - in case you were wondering).

~ I have a bad habit of checking my Blogger stats, I don't really know why but I do find out some interesting things. There are a lot of people who stop by but don't ever comment, that's fine I don't comment on every post I read either. I get more traffic when I'm actively commenting on other blogs, obviously. Posts with more photos and less words seem to attract more comments, not sure how to take that!

~ Last Friday Two Thursday's ago (seriously where did the extra week go?) I popped in to my stats to see that I HAVE MY FIRST FOLLOWER!! Sorry, I know it's really not that exciting but seriously Ali, it had been a pretty rough day and you put the bounce back in my step.

~ Speaking of bounce, we're babysitting The Sparky's niece on Saturday ... she's a great kid and it should be fun but we've already decided that if she has a melt down or an 'accident' then she's going outside with the dogs!

~ Just kidding (of course)!

~ and speaking of the dogs (because it's Friday after all) ...

another oldie, way back when he was still less than a year old

I am a Geek ...

For the record, this is what a Brisbane Broncos beanie looks like -

(found here)
I know this, I spent my first 13 years living in two rugby loving states and barracked for the Broncos right up until Melbourne Storm came along.

I also knew full well that the game I was going to Friday night was Storm v Broncos.

So, what does all this sport talk have to do with me being a Geek? As we were walking through the stadium trying to find our seats we ended up behind a young girl with one of those beanies on, my first thought ...

GRYFFINDOR!!

Told you I was a Geek :)
